Experienced General Manager with a demonstrated history of working in the plastics industry. Emma is accountable for our Quality and Human Resources teams. Skilled in Coaching, People Management, Human Resources, Team Building, and Facilitation. Strong media and communication professional within the Manufacturing and Engineering Industry.
I have been working in the plastics industry for 11 years now. I joined a plastic inejction moulding company at the age of 19, and I have worked in the industry ever since.
Prior to working in the plastics industry, I started my career working within the retail trade and quickly went up the ladder into management within the first year of my working life. After two years in this position, I changed my focus and worked with family in a local public house where I gained hospitality and catering managements NVQs managing the bar area at which point I wanted to try something different – again having not found my passion. This is when I found the plastics industry and I have never looked back.
I love the dynamic of the trade. I have a great passion for our business, and I enjoy the team I work with who make the job so much easier. I love working with our customers and seeing the result at the end of all the input from our team.
I think my proudest achievement was being promoted to the strategic team within Nordell, being the first female member of staff in Senior Management and being able to add a new dynamic to the leadership team. It makes me very proud to have pathed the way for other women to come up the ladder within our business and have a team around us that support diversity in quite a male-orientated trade.
I think the biggest change I have seen in the industry is the reduction of skills coming into the trade from the toolmaking side of things and the lack of knowledge given to the younger generation in education about engineering. This is something I am proud to be tackling head on with my position in Nordell by actively offering apprenticeships in the Mechanical Engineering and Toolmaking areas of the business to ensure this trade grows.
Nordell has a competitive advantage by embracing the diversity of our workforce and ensuring the best skilled workers are placed rightfully within positions in our business. What Nordell may be considered to be doing differently is actually nothing different at all. Having an open mind just means that we are able to ensure the right person is in the right seat within our business which is supported only by their want for the position, their understanding of what is required of them and their capacity to succeed given the right support and environment. As a business we are very down to earth, big enough to do the job, and small enough to care.
